How and When Will Students and I interact?

So the topic this week for our Chapter 2 Blended Learning was Blended Interactions and the question this week is "How and When Will Students and I interact?". I was talking to a colleague and mentioning this and of course I said, "The easy answer is in the 'Face-to-Face' portion of course." However, after readings and working on my courses that I am assigned to, the light bulb in my head went off. Of course, faculty interact with students more than that. They interact in the discussion boards, the comments on assessments, and so on. So, there is more interaction going on than my initial reaction at the moment.

One thing in our readings this week that did get me thinking and I hope I can keep this in mind was the Who, How, and Why Students Express themselves. It is very true that with different audiences, presentations will slightly differ in language and presentation. So, I hope to keep that in mind when talking with faculty about student interaction and what they expect.

Well, this is the end of week 2 and I'm still here. See you next week!

Blended Learning Blog Week 01

I have never blogged before so I have no clue what exactly I am doing. So I'm going with the blog question that they gave us from the MOOC that I am currently in "What will my blend be?"

The question sounds a little ethereal to me but if I go with the reading for this week, then I have to consider what a blended course design would be to me. So as I was taught, a good blended design is one that flows back and forth or bridges the content that is online with the content that is in the face-to-face portion. That they are connected and not two separate entities or separate classes and that is what we try to convey to our faculty when designing courses. It is a constant circle or flow around and around, I think the readings cyclical.

However, you wish to describe it no matter what there has to be a connection between the two and that I feel would be the goal of my blend.

The other factor I would consider in my blend is the opportunity that can present it self to incorporate active learning in the face-to-face sections. I think this would be a wonderful spot to incorporate or practice or implement what was learned in the online section.

So, that is my blend and this is my blog. And this is the end of week 01 of my MOOC.
